Breastfeeding

  The breastfeeding class consists of 3 ½ hours of instruction covering all aspects of breastfeeding in the first month.  Breastfeeding will be presented as the preferred method of feeding for infants. A breastfeeding power point will be used to present the course content along with the video Dr. Jack Newman’s Visual Guide to Breastfeeding.  All classes will be provided by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or a Certified Breastfeeding Educator.

  • Family support & help
  • Nutrition while breast feeding
  • Feeding frequency & length
  • Breast preparation
  • Nursing bras
  • Proper positioning (cradle, cross cradle, football, side lying)
  • Latching technique and evaluation (Dr. Jack Newman video)
  • Feeding frequency & length
  • Signs of adequate intake
  • Common problems in first month
