Conducts an individualized patient assessment and ongoing assessments, prioritizing the data collection based on the neonatal patient’s immediate condition or needs within a timeframe specified by policies/procedures/protocols. Cares for infants transitioning to extrauterine life. Carries out physician orders. Provides nutritional assessment and care to the infant. Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, and monitors vital signs. Assists physician during examination, treatment, and procedures. Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Instructs and educates patient and families. Assesses and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Provides age specific, culturally appropriate care. Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and client staff. Orients and mentors new staff members. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
